Genomics for Biosecurity
Over the past 25+ years, AGRF has provided genomics service expertise to the biosecurity and food safety sector in Australia and internationally. Some projects include aquatic biosecurity in the aquarium fish trade, outbreak of freckle disease, establishment of a biosecurity tool for detecting dairy herds with past exposure to Mycoplasma bovis.
AGRF can provide support, through a range of applications including: environmental population studies, plant cultivar identification, screening programs and microbial profiling. AGRF offers a range of advanced genomics tools including high-throughput genotyping and genome sequencing to help drive this research.

-
Pathogen Detection and Identification: Genomics allows for rapid and precise identification of pathogens, enabling early detection and response to biosecurity threats.
Tracking and Surveillance: Genomic sequencing helps trace the origin and spread of infectious diseases, providing critical information for monitoring outbreaks and preventing the transmission of dangerous pathogens.
Biothreat Assessment: Genomics can assess the genetic makeup of potential biothreats.
