Genomics for Food Production and Food Safety
An ever increasing and wealthier population is driving higher demand for food production from ever more limited resources. Genomics is central to the creation of robust high yielding, nutrient rich, high-value products to tackle global food and nutrient challenges. We have partnered with businesses like Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) and ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space. We have worked on projects involving mushroom, cultured meat, fermented food and regulatory testing. We have also provided services to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to support their work in biosecurity diagnostics.

Genomics is essential for food production and safety because it enables a deeper understanding of the genetic, makeup of crops, livestock ad microorganisms involved in food production. Genomics is used to develop crops with improved yield, nutritional content, and resistance to pests and disease, contributing to global food security.
Genomics is also used to monitor and detect foodborne pathogens, ensuring the safety of the food supply chain from farm to fork. This knowledge empowers famers, regulators and consumers to make informed decisions and implement measures to mitigate food safety risks.

Having worked with major industry partners for many years. We have established strong relationships built on trust, reliability and collaboration. This has allowed us to provide our customers with the best possible services and solutions.
We offer a range of advanced genomics services for the food production and safety sector including:
Pathogen testing and monitoring
Whole genome sequencing used for precise identification of the pathogen strain
Real-time PCR for identifying contamination in food products, processing environments and water sources
Metagenomics helps detect multiple pathogens at once including unknown or emerging microbes
Food authenticity and traceability
DNA markers are used to verify the species and source of meat, fish and other animal products reducing the risk of food fraud
